Non-Destructive Testing is a set of engineering, inspection, analysis, evaluation and diagnostic techniques and procedures used by the industry in order to determine the integrity of structural conditions. These tests allow the detection of flaws, imperfections, discontinuities or surface and internal (subsurface) defects in metallic/non-metallic materials such as components, containers, welds and structures, without the need to disassemble, damage or destroy the element under inspection, neither alter its physical, chemical, mechanical and dimensional properties, nor its operational activity while its condition is determined. Non-Destructive Testing is commonly identified by the acronym NDT, and is also known as Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE), Non-Destructive Examination (NDE), Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI).
